Kate Pilgrim

Kate Pilgrim is a student midwife who attended FGS until 1997.

After leaving sixth form, Kate enjoyed an 11 year career with the cabin crew of Thomas Cook, before going back to education to gain a degree as a mature student.

Now following in the footsteps of her mother, a retired midwife who also attended FGS, Kate is part of the national midwifery programme, and is currently working towards her BSc Hons for midwifery at Edge Hill University.

Kate credits FGS for her memorable years as a pupil and describes it as fun and opportunistic. "My time there enabled me to be successful in my studies, leading me into further education and my first career," she says.

"I now aim to qualify as a midwife and enjoy a long and successful rewarding career doing that."

When asked what advice she would give current pupils hoping to move into midwifery, Kate is quite clear: "Address the required academic standard for entry," she says. "And be prepared for hard work and a lot of commitment. But with that comes huge rewards so good luck!"
