Transition – Year 6 to Year 7 at FGS
Transition from Year 6 to Year 7
Making the change from primary to secondary school can be one of the most daunting times, both for your child and for you! You leave behind the security of a close-knit primary community with relatively small numbers of children where everybody knows each other, and move to a very big school where you do not have the same contact and control as a parent.
At FGS we understand that it can be a very worrying time and try to make this transition as smooth and concern free as possible. We have many people in place to help and support you and your daughter through the next 7 years which includes a dedicated transition team as well as year 7 student Transition Ambassadors.
Our transition team work closely with our feeder primary schools to ensure that we understand your daughter's needs before starting FGS. This includes registering your daughter for the Talented, Able and Gifted programme where appropriate, and of course ensuring we plan for any additional learning needs.
Through our parent evenings, questionnaires, "Moving Up" programme and induction events we are able to ensure your daughter is placed in the correct form and that staff are informed and prepared for any additional circumstances.
We actively encourage parents to talk to us and share concerns, worries and wishes before the girls begin in Year 7 so that we can provide the best possible start for them.
