Twelve year 8 and 9 students have been recruited as Flixton Girls School (FGS) new sporting ambassadors.
Through the Youth Sport Trust programme, our twelve students were given the opportunity to meet and train under British Olympic boxer Natasha Jonas. Natasha was the first woman to box for Great Britain at the Olympic Games; she won bronze at the 2012 World Championships before reaching the quarter-finals at the London 2012 Olympics.
The students took part in goal-setting workshops and team-building activities which brought to life the schools founding principles of aspiration, empowerment and excellence. After listening to the challenges that Natasha faced in order to make it to the London Olympics, our students left feeling motivated and inspired to achieve their personal bests.
Year 9 student’s Ella Sutton and Ella Bowness both agreed hearing about Natasha’s achievements was very inspirational. It personally enabled them to instill excellence in their everyday lives and also aim high to achieve the best they possibly can.
All ambassadors ended the session by setting goals - one of which was to work hard to develop our Fitness Friday initiative.
