As part of our 6th Form pathways and with for college application deadlines looming, Flixton Girls hosted their annual Aspirational Futures Day.
The event attracted thirty different colleges, universities and other businesses and organisations with the aim being for our students to have discussions with those in attendance to gain knowledge and an understanding regarding their potential career choices and pathways.
As well as our own 6th Form staff being on hand to talk to students, attendees at the event included:
Engineering Futures, Edge Hill University, Mploy solutions, NHS Careers Hub, The University of Law, Keele University, The Skills Company, Salford University, Sellafield Ltd, HM Revenue and Customs, Greater Manchester Police, Horwich Farrelly Solicitors, Rolls-Royce plc., Trafford Social Workers, Liverpool John Moores University, UTC Media City, Connexions, Trafford College, The University of Manchester, Salford City College, Aldi, Carrington Riding School and Trafford Social workers.
Mrs Bates, Work Related Learning Coordinator and event organiser said: ‘We aim to provide our students with the tools and resources to make these important and valuable career decisions. Students take their first steps toward meaningful employment by meeting with employers face to face to exchange information.’
Many of the event ambassadors said that they had been into other schools for similar events but never seen a careers day with such an established set up like FGS. One added “we wish we had received this type of opportunity when we were at school”.
The NHS staff in attendance said: ‘FGS students were very polite, asked sensible questions and were well informed.’
