Christmas Community Lunch

Flixton Girls School invited our local community care home residents and staff to join us for a Christmas Community Lunch laid on by the team from our very own Artisan dining room.

De Brook Lodge (Flixton) residents and staff gratefully accepted our invitation and came along to enjoy the festive spread, whilst listening to our junior and senior choirs perform an array of Christmas songs and carols.

The residents really enjoyed the choirs’ performance, joining in with some of the well-known Christmas carols. Some also had a small tear in their eye as they listened to the girls perform.

Students currently studying Food Technology and Health and Social Care supported the dining room staff and our visitors by serving their three course Christmas lunch including drinks. The girls had the opportunity to interact with the De Brooks' residents and staff, pulling crackers and discussing their experiences whilst at school and Christmases past.

It was lovely to see the students interacting with our visitors, helping to bridge the age gap and bringing the community closer together at this festive time. Some of the visitors were also ex Flixton Girls students and really appreciated the invitation to return to their school!

Danielle Aikenhead Lifestyle Manager at De Brook Lodge said: ‘It was a really lovely event and we hope to bring more visitors next year.’

Many of the choir members said fantastic the event was and that they were really excited for their visit to De Brook Lodge next week; where hopefully more residents would be able to hear their singing.

Year 10 student Olivia Waugh who is studying Food Technology as part of her GCSE’s commented: ‘It was really lovely to see how happy the ladies were, particularly when we started up conversations with them. Talking with a group of people really pushed me out of my comfort zone but the experience has taught me to be myself and appreciate that age doesn’t matter.’

would like to thank everyone involved with organising this event and our visitors for making this a successful festive experience for all. Very best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all!
