Flixton Girls School promotes keeping fit and general wellbeing to all our students and staff. Each month we embed this ethos with our Fitness Friday activities in association with MadFitness UK. Students and staff are able to participate in a variety of sporting activities between 8 – 4pm, including activities such as; a brisk mile walk /run or wake up session before school, aerobic / boxercise / football skills during school and gymnastics after school.
This month as well as Lynn from MadFitness hosting her aerobic sessions we were also rejoined by Sky Sports for Living ambassador and former England Women’s Senior goalkeeper, Rachel Brown-Finnis. Rachel revisited the school as part of the Sky Sports for Living programme; as an athlete mentor working with students specifically around team building sessions but also creating fun football sessions for our younger students.
Students and staff were very excited to see Rachel again and they really appreciated the time she spent with them perfecting their new skills. Her previous visits included our official 3G pitch launch where Rachel kindly cut the opening ribbon and participated with local primary school fun sessions.
During the launch Rachel said: ‘I’m really pleased that Flixton Girls are getting the most out of their new 3G pitch and am particularly excited to keep an eye on the next crop of young sport stars that will no doubt emerge from the school’s ranks!’
Rachel was able to see this quote in practice and participate with the girls on the new 3G pitch.
Miss Cashin, PE Teacher commented: ‘Students really enjoy our Fitness Friday monthly sessions as we really like to mix up the types of activities available. Having Rachel Brown-Finnis participate with the girls made it great fun and they had an amazing time.’
