Greater Sport recently launched a county-wide volunteer application process for this years Greater Manchester Young Local Organising Committee members (YLOC). This is the second year that young committee members have been sought for involvement in organising sporting events across the calendar. The scheme brings young people from across the county together, ensuring their voices are heard.

Students from year 9 and above were asked to submit their personal applications for a position on the committee which supports the running of three main events (Winter Primary School Games – March 2020, Summer Primary and Secondary School Games – June 2020) with the addition of specialist events between these dates.

In return for their commitment, Greater Sport can provide experience in event and project management and leadership, as well as making the School Games experience better for all young people across Greater Manchester.

We are very proud of the Flixton Girls School students who took the time to complete the application forms. Alannah Burke, Jasmine Richardson and Evie Peet really showcased their skills answering detailed questions including: ‘What experience can you bring to the position’, ‘Pick a School Games value and explain how you have demonstrated this value.’.

Congratulations to all those involved in the application and interview process especially FGS students Alannah Burke and Jasmine Richardson who were chosen to represent FGS and join the YLOC. The commence their roles shortly and we look forward to hearing about their endeavours over the coming months!

All the girls said the reason for putting themselves forward for these roles was to do something which pushed themselves outside of their comfort zone; whilst also supporting others in achieving their sporting potential.

Kay Statham, FGS Partnership Development Manager and Healthy Learning Trust member said, ‘I am so proud of all three girls, they showed really maturity and passion in their applications. All are great sports people and leaders within the School and wanted to share their experiences with others to ensure that the Greater Manchester School Games remains relevant and meaningful to all young people across the County.’
