FGS recently held a ‘Spelling Bee' competition for all year 7 students. The heats took place during English lessons; whittling down each form to the best two contestant representatives.

The final, held in front of the whole of year 7, saw the students complete spelling and anagram tasks; with links to subjects from all departments. The contestants worked both independently and with the help of their fellow form members, to ensure they answered as many questions correctly as possible.

It was a very close fought final with the lead switching around throughout the competition, until ultimately 7KB and 7CA took it to a tie breaker. Both were worthy winners but ultimately 7CA were crowned Spelling Bee Champions.

Ms Carney 7CA form tutor said: ‘I am really proud of Jenna and Mariam for representing our form this year.  It was great to see the whole form working together to support them in gaining the title.

The spelling bee event is a great opportunity to promote self-belief, confidence and a can do attitude for all students as it involves the whole year group. ‘

Mrs Holt, Head of Performance and Participation said ‘This is an event I always look forward to hosting and again the students did not let me down. Their enthusiasm was infectious and the support they offered each other was outstanding.’

Very well done everyone for their fantastic spelling achievements.
