Sports Relief 2018

Flixton Girls School supported Sports Relief 2018 with a weeks’ worth of fun and activities, ranging from break and lunch activities time including lacrosse, netball, skipping and aerobics to a sponsored “run a mile” challenge and athlete visits.

We welcomed GB Taekwondo athletes Rachelle Booth, Emelye O’Brien, Jade Slavin and Jonathan Bangura. Our year 7 and 8 students heard about how each of the athletes discovered Taekwondo and how much time they spend training, providing our girls with inspirational advice.

The students then had the opportunity to take part in some training and sparring technique practice. Everyone really enjoyed this introduction to Taekwondo.

Additionally, our KS4 football team took up the challenge of a “student vs. staff” Sports Relief football match. This fun afternoon saw some amazing skills on show from all team members and the lead changed hands continually. Both teams were supported by a great turn out of fellow students and staff members, cheering them on from the side lines, all in the name of charity. The donations from this match alone came to £46.30.

During our Fitness Friday event, lower school students wore red and white accessories for the day having raised donations for the ‘Run a Mile Sports Relief Challenge’. Students and staff really put their best feet forward, thoroughly supporting this year’s Sports Relief challenges.
