Successful Sporting Festivals

Multi-skills sports festivals continue to go from strength to strength here at Flixton Girls. Our cluster primary schools; Woodhouse Primary, Abbotsford Prep, Flixton Infants, Urmston Infants and St Mary’s Primary all form part of the Trafford School Sports Partnership.
All schools are invited to participate in each event and bring along their entire year group. The year 1 outdoor event kicked off the fixtures back in November, followed closely by the year 2 indoor event.
All events are planned and delivered by Kay Statham – Health, Wellbeing and Sports Development Manager and Belinda Cashin - PE Teacher, with the support of FGS year 7 and 8 Sports Leaders. The students attended after school leadership club and have worked really hard in preparing their activities for the primary school groups.
Response from our cluster schools has been overwhelming meaning the events had to be split over a full day with different schools bringing an entire year group, for either the morning or afternoon session.
During each event the young people take part in ten different skills stations to develop their physical literacy; balance, agility and co-ordination. FGS students assist each group through the sessions ensuring they get one to one guidance on completion of each activity.
Hannah Jones year 8 said: ‘It was really nice helping the younger children and guiding them through the bowling and golfing activities. I really enjoyed helping them complete each of the challenges and seeing them succeed.’
Miss Mayer Abbotsford Prep said ‘Year 2 had an amazing time at Flixton Girls Multi-skills festival. I was very proud of their efforts.’
Flixton Infants teacher Miss O’Grady commented: ’Sixty of our pupils took part in this fantastic event and all of them had a great time learning lots of new skills. They particularly loved the archery and hockey as many hadn’t experienced these activities previously.’
Our next event will be a year 3 football festival planned for March. Watch this space for more information.
