Governance

The Governing Body is committed to safeguarding, promoting the welfare of children and equality of opportunity for all and expects all staff to share this commitment.

Our School Governors are people who wish to make a positive contribution to the education of our girls.
They work in partnership with the Headteacher and other school staff to promote high standards of educational achievement at the school.

They are primarily responsible and accountable for all major decisions about the school and its future, and ensure that the school is accountable to those it serves.

Parent/Staff Governors
Parent Governors are elected from within the parent body of the school when there is a vacancy. Any vacancies will be advertised on the school website.

Staff Governors are elected from within the staff body of the school when there is a vacancy.

Could you be a school governor?

The roles are voluntary and the appointment is for a four-year term of office.

What does the LGB do?

The LGB has responsibility for day to day governance within the school. Its key responsibilities are:
- to ensure the vision, ethos and strategic direction for their school and The Trust is implemented
- holding the school to account for the outcomes of all students
- to ensure policies are fit for purpose and implemented effectively
- to act as a critical friend to The Headteacher

The LGB is accountable to the Healthy Learning Trust Board of Trustees.

Why become a school governor?

You will work with other parents and local people who are committed to making Flixton Girls School the best school it can be.
You will share and apply skills and knowledge you already have, and learn new ones.
You will have the opportunity to 'give back' to the school and the community it serves.

More general information on what being a school governor entails can be found on the Governors for Schools website (www.sgoss.org.uk) or the National Governors Association (www.nga.org.uk).

What are we looking for?

The most important thing is to have a keen interest in the school and education of the children it serves with a willingness to play an active part in the Governing Body's work.

You will need to be available to attend six LGB meetings per academic year (usually held in the evening) with associated work in between. Training and induction is available for all Governors.

While there are no special qualifications needed, we are keen to complement the skills/experience of the rest of the LGB membership. We would particularly welcome applications from individuals with experience of any of the following:
- Chairing a board or committee
- Understanding of special educational needs/safeguarding
- Legal and/or PR and marketing experience
- Premises and facilities management
- Experience within education at any Key Stage

How do I apply?

When a vacancy arises, expressions of interest can be submitted by completing the application form (link below) then email to: flixtongirls(at)vantageacademies.co.uk

Should we receive more than one application, we will conduct an online ballot using the personal statement submitted on the application form so that other parents can vote based on the information provided.

Please note successful candidates will be required to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and to confirm their eligibility to serve as a school governor.

Further information: if you wish to ask any questions or discuss the nature of the role informally, please do not hesitate to get in touch – call Claire Hall (Executive PA to the Headteacher) 0161 960 0160.
