Uniform

A basic element of education is self-discipline, as are the ability to meet expected standards of personal presentation and to produce work of a high quality. The development of excellent organisational and time management skills are keys to success in both academic qualifications and future working life. Our aim is to be consistent in our approach throughout the year and we do expect high standards at all times, undertaking uniform and equipment checks on a regular basis. If you have any queries regarding your daughter's uniform, planner use or academic target setting, please do not hesitate to contact her Form Tutor in the first instance.

Uniform Policy

The wearing of a school uniform encourages students to have a sense of pride and belonging as well as reinforcing the high standards established within the local community. Our school uniform has been has been designed to be smart, traditional and affordable.

Policy details

In choosing FGS parents are making a commitment to ensure that their daughter wears the uniform correctly. The list is provided as a supplement to the handbook and makes clear all compulsory and optional items and indicates where the items may be purchased. The school provides items directly from the manufacturer ensuring the lowest possible prices. However, the school is able to offer flexible payments to help parents spread the cost.

Footwear

Please note that footwear is required to be plain black low heeled leather or similar shoes with no logos or very obvious designer branding. A leather type trainer/shoe style will be acceptable to support physical activity at break and lunch.

Outdoor Clothing

Please note that students should wear a ¾ or full length plain black or plain grey outdoor coat. Other short jackets, hoodies, jumpers and jewellery (except a wrist watch) are NOT permitted.

Students may also wear a plain black or plain grey winter hat, scarf and gloves (optional).

All items should be clearly labelled with the name of the owner.

If a student comes to school without the proper uniform (e.g. wearing boots, wrong type of trousers or without a jacket), she may be withdrawn from classes and parents will be contacted. Persistent refusal to comply with the uniform policy may result in the student being excluded from school. Please note:

  • Makeup and nail varnish/false nails are not permitted

Retainers in piercings are NOT allowed

  • All hair should be neatly tied back with plain black hair bands. Unnatural coloured/peroxide, dipped dyed and streaked hair or shaved/short clipped, fashion styles are not appropriate.

Prices will be comparable across the two ranges.

Initially the new kit will be available to the Year 7 2020 September intake only.

Until further notice the current kit will still be compulsory for students in years 8 to 11 so that there is consistency within each year group.

Please order uniform via Parentpay stating the items and sizes you require in the notes field when you make your payment. 

As of September 2020, when your order is ready, it will be given to your daughter at the end of the school day. Please keep the labels on until the items have been tried on at home. If you need to exchange any items email finance(at)flixtongirls.com  listing the items you wish to exchange and whether you want a bigger or smaller size. The items you are returning should then be brought to school reception in their original packaging including the carrier bag labelled with your daughter's name and placed on the returns rail. When the exchange items are available they will be given to your daughter at the end of the school day.
