Alumni 85th Reunion

2018 sees FGS celebrating our 85^th year so we flung open our doors for our second annual alumni reunion event earlier this spring.

It was lovely to welcome back over 130 ex-students and staff, representing many of the leaving year groups from 1933 to 2017. This was an open house event and  all former students were invited to take a walk down memory lane and retrace their FGS footsteps.

    

The hall and corridors were awash with reconnected alumni,  reminiscing about old times which were brought to life through old school photographs, magazines, year books and revisiting classrooms and then enjoying refreshments put on by our Friends of Flixton.

A few of our founder member pupils from the 1930’s and 40’s including Cyril Giles and May Thomas also joined in with our celebrations!

     

We had a raft of lovely comments about the event:

Rebecca Parker who left in 2000 said:  ‘It was nice to be back.’

Diane Parkhouse said: ‘Thanks for organising this event it was great to be there and catch up.’

Mrs Trussell tweeted: ‘Such a buzz in the hall this afternoon at the annual @FlixtonGS reunion - thanks so much to everyone who came - looking forward to seeing you again next year!’

Soraya Holloway ex-student leaver 2017 tweeted: ‘Yesterday I had a fabulous day meeting my mums’ old school friends’ @FlixtonGS #Alumni. I also had my own little reunion with a familiar face on the corridor!.’

Headteacher and former FGS student Mrs Hazeldine commented on Twitter: ‘Had great time @FlixtonGS school reunion on Saturday - especially with the class of ‘78 and my school pals Sue Julie Wendy Liz Heather Pat & Kathy!’

We hope to see even more alumni members at next year’s event, which will be held around the middle of March 2019. Please watch out for more information via Social Media and the school website.
