Year 9 student Jasmine Richardson has shown great sporting prowess in a variety of under-15 athletic disciplines this year. She trains with Sale Harrier’s Athletic Club and has been chosen to represent her county three times for various field and track events including shot-put, discus, relay and 100m races.

In March Jasmine competed in Sports Hall athletics with Sale Harriers being placed first in both shot put and relay, progressing to the county championships where twelve competitors from across six counties fought for the top spots. Jasmine did her parents, club and county proud, being placed second in relay and fourth in shot. May brought the Outdoor County Championships where Jasmine came second in discus despite being the youngest in her age group, as well as first in the relay.

Following these achievements Jasmine was selected to compete for Greater Manchester at the Mason Trophy track and field event, in June, at the Alexandra Stadium, Birmingham. This country wide county event saw her achieve third place in the year 8 shot, fourth in the year 8 discus and fourth in the relay.

Historically Jasmine has represented Sale Harriers under 13’s team, achieving a gold medal in the 75m and relay, plus a bronze in the shot, at the National finals in Bedford. During the National finals for the Sports Hall Athletics Jasmine represented Greater Manchester where she came first in the relay and fifth in the shot.

Jasmine’s aim is to continue to represent her club and county, as she progresses through the under 17 to 20 age group. She hopes to then progress through the ranks and compete for the North of England and Great Britain by training hard, looking after herself both physically and mentally whilst balancing training with school, homework and her own wellbeing.

Jasmine topped off her success with being awarded the KS3 Excellence Award, for her sporting achievements at club and county level at our own FGS Sports Awards Evening earlier this term.

Mrs Statham – Sport Development Manager said: ‘Jasmine is a fantastic student; she is a great role model to others and extremely focused on her training. I am sure in the next few years she will become a big star in the athletics world.’
