Flixton Girls students in year 7 through to year 9 were given the opportunity to participate in Kate Green’s annual Christmas card design competition. The annual event is run with support from Carrington-based property developer, HIMOR.
This year FGS year 7 student Katie Openshaw, Aged 11, form 7SL, was awarded the top prize for her robin design, which was selected for the front of Kate Green’s Christmas card. Four runners up designs, from schools across Trafford, where shown on the inside the card. The cards were issued to hundreds of constituents, local businesses, voluntary and community groups, faith groups and schools.
Every pupil who contributed a design received a certificate and Katie was also awarded a small prize.
Competition winner, Katie Openshaw, said ‘I loved taking part in the Christmas card competition and I cannot believe I won! “I will definitely be taking part in the competition next year and thank you, Kate, for my prize!’
Kate Green tweeted, ‘Congratulations to Katie and all students who participated. A massive congratulations to the winner of my annual Christmas card competition, Katie Openshaw from @FlixtonGS.’
Kate later commented: ‘This year I received hundreds of entries from local schools. I was so impressed with the range of creative designs submitted and it was incredibly hard to pick a winner. Katie’s design stood out as it was so jolly and festive. I’m extremely grateful to HIMOR for sponsoring the competition and helping me judge the entries.’
Mark Booth, Managing Director of HIMOR, said, ‘We’re extremely proud to work with Kate once again to support the Christmas Card Design Competition. It was great to see all of this year’s fantastic entries, and a special congratulations to Katie for impressing us with her design!’
