Evening of Excellence

Posted at 11:50 am on 2nd May, 2017

Students from year 7 through to year 12 participated in our hugely rewarding celebration of the amazing talents and abilities of our students here at FGS. The girls showcased their exceptional talents and abilities through live music, dance, drama performances and inspirational speeches.

Speakers included students covering a wide array of subjects through Science ‘STEMettes’, Computer Science ‘Micro Bit’, PE ‘Like a Girl’ campaign, Business ‘Kelloggs Women in business’, MFL ‘Poetry and beyond’ and Maths ‘Magic with Maths’.

We also had a very special guest speaker -  Olympic Silver Medallist and world record breaker being part of the first women’s crew to row the North Atlantic west to east; Guin Batten.

Refreshments were created and served on the night by our excellent student catering team led by the Create Faculty. As always they were beautifully presented and tasted amazing!

Miss Tedford Director of Teaching & Learning said; ‘I am so pleased with the celebration of excellence evening; the standard of performances were extremely high and our student presenters Eden Woodstock Burgher and Katie Scotson were extremely professional.

What was presented on stage and in the gallery areas is testament to the students who work hard and strive for excellence everyday they attend our school.

Special thanks also has to go to Guin Batten who provided us with such an inspirational keynote, one of the best to date! Evenings like this would not be possible without the amazing teaching staff we have here at FGS. They really do empower the girls and give them the tools to achieve.”

At the end of the evening Soraya Hollway year 11 tweeted the rowing star -  ‘@guinbatten #inspired such an amazing #EveningOfExcellence event tonight -  feeling extremely inspired & motivated’

Guin Batten replied ‘Thanks for a wonderful welcome @FlixtonGS loved meeting all the amazing young women.’

Parent Mrs Green commented ‘What a wonderful evening full of inspirational speakers and performances. Well done everyone.’
