First Class Sixth Form Open Evening!

Flixton Girls School Sixth Form (FGS6thform), students and staff proudly opened their doors to prospective students and their family members, our Sixth Form curriculum, facilities and proud alumnus family members!

A record number of families attended and were able to meet staff as well as both current and former Sixth Form students. Face to face contact during this important transition process from year 11 through to Sixth Form helps students and their families to make the right choice for them. Discussing career destination and linking this to their academic journey puts our students in control of their own destination.

Although part of FGS, our Sixth Form is a fresh start for all who attend. Students are based in our dedicated Sixth Form Centre and are taught by A Level specialists from the school. We believe our students deserve an education that broadens their experience and prepares them for the challenges of an increasingly competitive world. Our young people expand their knowledge through flexible routes and a proven track record of excellent progression. Building and nurturing all our students' academic potential enables them to secure their offers for universities and apprenticeships.

Lydia Riley, Head Girl 2014-15, studied Psychology, Geography and Business Studies and progressed to the University of Salford where she achieved a First Class Honours Degree in Human Resources Management. Lydia said, ‘Her time at FGS Sixth Form was excellent and her teachers really went above and beyond.’

Parents responded to our event by saying:

‘Thanks for an informative evening, it makes our choices much easier and it was lovely to chat to former student.’

and

‘It was lovely to see a student who had attended a different school speak so highly of Sixth Form and how they very much felt a sense of belonging.’

Mrs Trussell, Headteacher said, ‘Having been a part of FGS for almost two decades, I am absolutely thrilled and honoured to have hosted my first Sixth Form open evening as the headteacher of our “Flixton family”. I am so proud to have helped transform this school into what it is today and one that truly sits at the heart of the community.

Following my commitment to do my very best to make this good school even better, we continue to eradicate inequalities and maximise academic outcomes whilst still growing the school’s reputation and performance.  It was so lovely to be able to show everyone the work that we are doing to take us to the next level first hand.

Those choosing FGS Sixth Form will experience the most amazing journey, there are no limits to your potential. We have a superb team of teaching staff delivering inspirational learning experiences as well as expert operational and support staff who provide amazing care and encouragement.
