Former Head Girl’s Property Prowess
Posted at 12:24 pm on 29th June, 2020
Emily Bates, Head Girl at Flixton Girls School 2017-18 and now in her second year at Liverpool University studying Urban Planning; has scooped a prestigious prize at the Women in Property Awards.
The awards sought the best ‘Built Environment’ degree students from across the region, and Emily was crowned North West Student of the Year at the recent virtual ceremony.
Over the past 13 years over 1,080 students have been through the awards programme, which explores their coursework, challenges their wider industry knowledge, and encourages them to hone and develop their interpersonal skills.
Through links with industry and developing students’ knowledge of career options, many go on to secure work placements as a direct result of competing in the awards, often translating into permanent positions upon graduation.
Emily will join the other 12 regional winners at a National Awards Ceremony in London planned for 16 September 2020.
As a former Head Girl Emily’s interpersonal skills and work ethic have really shone through. We were all very proud of her achievements at FGS including her A*A*B A Level results during her studies at FGS 6th Form. This recent accolade is of no surprise and only goes to show with dedication and hard work you can achieve your goals.
Emily said, ‘I can’t believe I won, out of six North West University candidates! The £500 will definitely come in handy, as will the placement at Savills. Thank you Miss Perkin for your support, teaching me Geography during my time at FGS and 6th Form. I really appreciated my time at FGS, which spurred me on to further my education and achieve my goals. I am looking forward to the national finals later this year.’
Miss Perkin Geography Teacher commented, ‘The epitome of the perfect student, very well done!’
Congratulations Emily on this wonderful achievement, we wish you well for the national stage of the award process and the continued success for your degree and future job prospects. Please keep in touch!
