Flixton Girls School year 7 student Mia Mason has swum to success in recent competitions as part of Flixton Swim Team, based at Urmston Leisure Centre.
Mia has been swimming from a very early age and started swimming lessons at the age of three; progressing through all the milestones at Partington Sports Village until she moved to the Flixton Swim Team at nine years of age.
Recently Mia took part in the Lancashire County Swimming Championships at the Manchester Aquatic Centre and won gold in the year 12 100m freestyle race; as well as achieving bronze in the 50m freestyle. This topped off a brilliant championship for Mia who achieved eight personal bests and qualifying for the Regional Championships later this year.
Philip Ramsbottom, Swim Coach at Flixton Swim Team commented ‘She shows a great level of dedication and hard work, which she has shown since day one of joining the team. Training currently takes place eight times a week, over 6 days; involving in-pool sessions as well as on land training.
Mia’s hard work at training is fuelled by a love of the sport and superb level of motivation that she has managed to maintain for the last three years. Mia is currently ranked in the top 20 in the county in her age group and we wish her well for the regionals.’
Mia said: ‘I have always enjoyed swimming and would love to ensure everyone has the chance to learn to swim by training to become a swim coach when I am older. I am looking forward to the regional championships and in particular the shorter distance freestyle and longer distance breaststroke races. Joining Flixton Swim Team doesn’t mean you have to take part in the competitions so I would urge anyone with an interest in swimming to give it a try.’
Congratulations Mia on your recent achievements and we wish you every success with the regionals and future swimming competitions.
