Funding Successes

At Flixton Girls School (FGS) we are always on the look out for additional sources of funding to assist our students learning, aspirations and achievements. Due to Government funding diminishing year on year, our aim is to boost school funds, in conjunction with our Friends of Flixton (FoF) support group.

With the support of the FoF we have recently secured a parental donation of almost £1000 for purchase of a Jet wood-turning lathe. This type of tool will transform the work our students are able to undertake in their Design and Technology work. Ms Habu-Elfailat said: ‘This donation was unexpected but gratefully received and it will be a wonderful benefit to our students.’

Additionally following a successful grant application by Mr Deakin, Director of Business and Finance, our music department has been able to purchase a selection of brand new musical instruments which are made available to students who show enthusiasm and talent on long term loan. Zoe Gilpin, Hannah Whiting and Faith Pits Garrett were the proud recipients of three clarinets; whilst EleanorWoodall received a new flute. The £1000 was awarded by EMI Music Foundation and allows more students to access the power of music by extending our loan instrument resources.

Mrs Holt Head of Performance and Participation said: ‘Our students couldn’t be happier, being offered this loan facility of a brand new instrument really makes a difference to their practicing and overall performances.’

The FoF group meet on school site to three or four times a year to join forces in supporting school fundraising. Their next meeting is taking place on Monday 4^th June from 6pm. With the FoF offering support by organising and serving refreshments and raffles at school events - whilst also sourcing additional funding and grants from local businesses, we are able to ensure all funds raised go to help as many students as possible.
