Girls Horrible Histories
Posted at 8:29 am on 12th October, 2016
FGS hosted our annual primary liaison event, along with Wellacre Academy with the aim to promote FGS to prospective Year 6 pupils whilst also supporting literacy development.
The event involved Year 6 girls coming to FGS whilst the boys attended Wellacre. Students from Barton Clough, Gorse Hill, Highfield, Kingsway, Moss Park, St Marys, St Michaels, Urmston Juniors, Victoria Park and Woodhouse primary school took part in the events across the two sites.
Our main aim was to inspire prospective students of FGS, and give them an exciting flavour of the lessons on offer through a literacy theme that underpinned the entire curriculum for the day. While our previous theme was focused around Roald Dahl, we opted for ‘Horrible Histories’ as the main inspiration behind the taster lessons. Many students are familiar with this children’s series of books, and could engage well with the characters and texts.
Students were given the opportunity to dress up in the theme of Horrible Histories and they attended in some amazing costumes!
St Marys Davyhulme commented on twitter ‘Year 6 girls having great fun @FlixtonGS Primary Day’
Claire Richards Deputy Headteacher said ‘St Mary's had a fantastic time at the Horrible Histories day at FGS. They completed a range of interesting tasks; English, History, PE. It was really positive day for all.’
