Horrible Histories

Flixton Girls (FGS) and Wellacre Academy hosted our annual joint primary liaison event, with the aim to promote the schools to prospective Year 6 pupils whilst also supporting literacy development.

The event involved nearly 400 year 6 pupils from Acre Hall, Highfield, Kingsway, Moss Park, St Marys, St Michaels, Urmston Primary, Woodhouse and Victoria Park Primary School taking part in the event; boys attended Wellacre and girls at FGS.

The main aim was to inspire prospective students for both FGS and Wellacre by giving them an exciting flavour of the lessons on offer.

The ‘Horrible Histories’ theme included well known titles as; The Blitzed Brits, Terrible Tudors, Vicious Viking, Vile Victorians and Gorgeous Georgians to name a few.  Students took part in a range of cross-curricular activities, predominantly focusing on literacy, but also including; Art, Drama, PE, Dance, Maths, Science, History and Computing.  Many students are familiar with this children’s series of books, and could engage well with the characters and texts.

Students were given the opportunity to dress up in the theme of Horrible Histories and they attended in some amazing costumes!

The event was well received by all year 6 pupils and primary school teachers;

St. Mary’s Primary commented on Twitter ‘A great day @WellacreAcademy Horrible Histories Primary Day.’
