At Halloween our Head Girl Team headed up by sixth former Emily Bates coordinated a variety of Halloween activities for year 7 students. The aim of the activities was to celebrate Halloween whilst also raising funds for the Friends of Flixton and Derian House Derian House a children’s hospice located in Chorley which supports children and their families from all over the north west including Urmston.  The head girl team wanted to support children and young adults with similar ages to FGS studentswho aren’t able to go trick or treating and celebrate Halloween.

Year 7’s students were able to donate to come into school in Halloween fancy dress, enter a cake competition and purchase raffle tickets for some spooky prizes. Students with 100% attendance were invited to a spooky lunchtime movie show and the Head Girl Team, with staff assistance, hosted an end of day Halloween party.

The cake competition winners were; Sophie and Freya Ashcroft (7TL & 12TG).

Fancy dress competition winners were; first place Grace Niblett (7AJ), second place Bronte Everton (7TL) & third place Georgia Tong (7ZN). Very well done to all girls who entered the Halloween fancy dress competition. All the students made a spookatular effort and the Head Girl Team had a hard time choosing the winners.

Our students really enjoyed this fundraising Halloween celebration commenting:

Grace Atkinson 7KE; ‘I loved the Halloween extravaganza; it was really fun to see everyone’s costumes and take part in the party games.’

Erinn Thompson 7EH; ‘It was cool coming into school in our costumes and I loved the Halloween just dance. Thanks for a great event.’

Megan Davies 13CJ; ‘I was really impressed with the effort and creativity of all our year 7 costumes; we had a difficult decision to choose a top three.’

Erin Jones 12TG & Emily Bates 13CJ; ‘Our favourite part of the event was the party, particularly the games of musical chairs.’

All the Halloween activities raised over £158 which has been split between Friends of Flixton and Derian House. Congratulations to our Head Girl Team and all staff involved for making this a fabulously successful event.
