Flixton Girls School year 9 student Jorja Miller has achieved skating success, with her Altrincham Synchronised Ice Skating squad ‘Altair Prelim’, based at Silver Blades Altrincham Ice Rink.

The team of ten participated in the National Synchronised Ice Skating competition at Lee Valley, London last month and achieved a bronze medal.

Although Jorja has been skating for four years, the Altair Prelim team have only been together since September 2017. Jorja decided to try out for the Altrincham Synchro team in February and was delighted to be picked for the squad.

Jorja and the team have worked extremely hard to ensure their routine was on point meaning regular training sessions. This involves early sessions between 6-7am before school  in the weeks leading up to a competition plus regular training with coach Sam Ozard and the rest of the team on Wednesday evenings. However, Jorja regularly practices at least three more times a week, including Saturdays.

The training is not only on the ice but also regular morning and evening gym sessions.

As a dress rehearsal for the competition the team gave a full performance during the Manchester Storm ice hockey home match, which was well received by the sell-out crowd. In their short time together the team have really gelled together well and this shows in their performances.

In addition to learning their routines, the skaters are all working towards their National Ice Skating Award (NISA). Jorja is currently working towards her Level 1 and she aspires to join the Whizz Kids team at Altrincham Synchro Team and won’t be happy until she achieves this.

Mr and Mrs Miller commented: ‘Jorja has shown great dedication and determination in aspiring to achieve her goals with our support, plus the support of her team mates, coach and her school.’

We wish Jorja and her team mates all our best wishes for their achievements so far and for their next competition at the British Synchronised Skating Championships, National Ice Skating Centre, Nottingham in mid-January 2018 and the finals shortly after in Dumfries.
