Matilda - 'When I Grow Up!'
Posted at 11:19 am on 31st March, 2022
The audience, cast and crew of Flixton Girls’ production of Matilda Jnr will remember this three night, sell out show for a very long time to come. Students and staff showed dedication, determination and commitment towards this year’s production, something which Matilda herself would be proud of!
Following months of rehearsals, the cast and crew really did put on a dazzling and polished performance of Roald Dahl’s Matilda Jr the Musical. Our entire Flixton family of performers, crew and supporters were absolutely delighted to be able to be performing again this year. Matilda was first commissioned and produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company and premiered at The Courtyard Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon, England on 9 November 2010. It transferred to the Cambridge Theatre in the West End of London on 25 October 2011 and received its US premiere at the Shubert Theatre on Broadway in New York on 4 March 2013.
Matilda JR is the story of a little girl with extraordinary powers. The daughter of abusive parents, Matilda finds refuge in library books and companionship in her teacher, Miss Honey. Brave little Matilda knows she has to stand up against the adults in her world, and in doing so, discovers her own remarkable powers.
As a school, we are motivated by such performances year on year to continue to provide access to performing arts subjects. Involvement in a school production provides a creative environment for our students to display excellent transferable skills including reliability, resilience, determination and dedication.
We know our FGS Performing Arts team are very proud of all students, without whom there wouldn’t have been a show - including those assisting backstage and colleagues who provided support with sound, lighting, costumes, set design, props and more – it really has been Flixton family team effort - congratulations everyone!
