Rainbow Results Day for Flixton Girls!
Posted at 5:17 pm on 13th August, 2020
A results day like no other was celebrated in style at Flixton Girls School today. In recognition of the sacrifices that the students have made, to stay home instead of sitting exams in order to save lives, the school organised a rainbow of balloons as a fitting memento.
Headteacher Julie Hazeldine said, “ Achieving 100% pass this year is the best retirement present I could wish for! Our 6th formers have been absolutely phenomenal throughout their school life and from the start of lockdown they were volunteering in the health and care sector, working as key workers and supporting our students here in school. The results they have been awarded today have increased significantly on previous years despite the current circumstances and the vast majority of girls have gained their first choice at University.”
Students from the Flixton Girls Sixth Form which is delivered through a partnership with Trafford College have gained places at the top regional universities including record numbers gaining places at the University of Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Salford to study a vast array of subjects from Dentistry, Pharmacy and Physiotherapy to Architecture, Fashion, Law and the Social Sciences.
Head of Sixth Form Nyla McKenna said “I am so happy for the girls after all of their hard work throughout school, despite the lockdown and cancelled exams, that they have been so successful in securing the courses they wanted with a large proportion gaining unconditional offers.
Headteacher Julie Hazeldine commented on the Governments pledge for a ‘triple lock’ for A Level grade appeals: “Although we have very few students who will need to appeal, we will be working hard to support our students where we feel they have been awarded a grade that is not a true reflection of their ability or prior performance.”
