Record Attendees at 6th Form Open Evening

Flixton Girls 6th Form (FGS) welcomed prospective parents and pupils, for our annual Open Evening this October.

Over 240 girls and their families streamed through our doors where they were able to meet the 6th Form team, students and staff ahead of the application deadline for places at our 6th Form for 2020/21.

Over the last five years, the 6th form has gone from strength to strength growing in numbers but also maintaining outstanding results at A level, surpassing national standards year upon year.  This year sees an increase in our subject offer with twenty-seven courses available for students to study. We have seen a stark increase in the numbers of pupils achieving A*-B grades across the board, bucking the national trend.

Head of Sixth Form Nyla McKenna commented, ‘It’s a privilege for me to lead this successful 6th form provision at Flixton, our offer is unique in that we really get to know our students well. Our dedicated staff find the best ways to support learning needs and encourage our students to have the highest aspirations for the next part of their academic journey. This year we saw the highest number of students make successful applications to the top Russell Group Universities including the University of Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool. We also have our first cohort of medics going through the application process for Medicine at the University of Manchester, as well as two students applying for the Oxbridge pathway for Geography and Sociology.
