Our lower school students were recently treated to a Science Magician visit by Dr Matt Pritchard.

The visit organised by Mrs Tyler, Assistant Head of Science aimed to prepare the girls for the new skills modules that feature in their future GCSE, encouraging investigation skills and questioning techniques.

Dr Matt Pritchard -  a magician, comedian and creative communicator -  has a love for creativity and a passion for simplifying the complex. As an independent science communicator he performs to over 50,000 people a year and works with organisations like The Royal Institute and the British Science Association.

Previously Matt conducted atomic physics research at Durham University  and went on to work at the Thinktank Science Museum in Birmingham.

In addition to this experience, he has spent the last 17 years working as a professional magician and is an Associate of the Inner Magic Circle - one of only 300 people in the world to hold this distinction.

Mrs Tyler said ‘The presentation was very entertaining and drew the audience into the experiments;  fully explaining, in a way the girls could understand.  The girls will be able to utilise the skills they have learnt at our future STEM fairs. These further  to encourage students to do more investigation style projects rather than just computer research based.’

Miss Johnston tweeted ‘Really enjoying the Science Magician @FlixtonGS #thankyouMrsTyler’
