Settling in Evening

At Flixton Girls School (FGS) we aim to provide excellent communications and engagement with all members of our Flixton family, including our parents and carers. Hosting our year 7 ‘Settling in Event’ is an example of how important it is to us; the reassurance and positive communications it affords for both parents and students cannot be underestimated.

The evening gave an opportunity for families to meet key staff at FGS and to see for themselves how well their child is settling in. Mrs Trussell, Headteacher, provided some key messages about life at FGS, the vision for their time at the school and all attendees also had the opportunity to meet members of our welfare team, including Heads of House and Form Tutors.

Parents and carers were informed about their daughter’s curriculum, her assessments and the process of target setting. In addition, they were able to discuss and take away further information relating to our rewards and leadership opportunities which are offered to all students throughout their seven years at FGS.

A team of students also displayed their cookery skills, providing a delicious soup for visitors and staff to share. Our ‘Big Soup Share’ aimed to promote enjoyment of locally grown and sourced produced. Our enrichment gardening and cookery groups promote growing our own vegetables and herbs to produce healthy, home-cooked economical meals.

Sharing skills to plant, nurture, grow, prepare, cook and share delicious, nutritious, food within our community empowers students to do the same within their own families and local communities.

We are always grateful for donations of any gardening equipment or seeds to support our growing journey… think pots, trowels, gloves, recipes, leftover seeds or produce etc! Please drop off at our community reception or email admin(at)flixtongirls.com.

Parental feedback from the event included:

Mrs Trussell, Headteacher said, ‘It has been wonderful to meet more of our Flixton family members face to face! Please don’t hesitate to get in touch using the admin(at)flixtongirls.com email account, if you have any questions from this event or moving forward.’
