Posted at 11:36 am on 11th July, 2022
Flixton Girls have pulled off yet another prestigious celebratory Sports Awards Evening, our first since 2019, owing to all the COVID restrictions. The event was opened by our very own ensemble of singers ‘Vocalise’, who provided a spine tingling performance of Mendelssohn’s ‘Lift Thine Eyes’. Followed by a clip of the closing ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, a celebration of sporting achievements in strange times.
The theme of this year’s event ‘A place in sport for every child - belonging’ celebrated the sporting efforts, contributions and achievements of those who have stepped up to the plate; displaying pride and passion for their sport.
Students across all year groups received awards for their personal and teamwork successes and helped entertain and host the event. School council members Gabby Murray and Isabelle Frain hosted the evening and did a wonderful job of introducing the many award participants. Throughout the evening medals were awarded for commitment and excellence for individual sports, as well as team of the year. Our winning team this year were our Trafford Champion athletics squad, who have really developed well together and shown a team effort to get them across the line!
Our students provided thrilling performances, in gymnastics and contemporary dance allowing their skills to be showcased. Partner primary, St Mary’s C of E Primary School also delighted everyone with their under the sea inspired dance performance. We wish to thank all our performers for taking time out of their busy schedules to display their talents.
Ms Collier did a sterling job of commentating our house challenge competition. It was as fierce battle, after a challenging start in archery for Mrs Croniken, Keller house did manage to make gains in the final rounds and bring home the overall win!
Our final awards went to KS3 and KS4 sports personalities of the year, congratulations to Olivia Turner and Ella Carr for their achievements in football and golf. The evening was brought to a close by new school council chair Selkie Huk’s closing remarks, followed by another fabulous vocal performance of Flashlight by ‘Dynamix’.
Mrs Trussell, Headteacher said, ‘I couldn’t be prouder of all the talent that @FlixtonGS celebrated this evening… and so appreciative of all the support from parents and carers that enable our young people to excel. Thank you!!!
Parental feedback included ‘Awesome evening!’, ‘An amazing night!’, ‘What a night for all of the teams and individuals involved. Tonight definitely showcased the power of sport and belonging.’ ‘Congratulations on a great evening of celebration.’
Congratulations to all our award recipients, performers and staff for making this yet another wonderful event. Thanks to all those who were able to attend and support this celebratory event.
