Staying Positive at FGS!
Posted at 4:33 pm on 10th February, 2021
Positivity during this recent lockdown isn’t easy to come by and we appreciate everyone's efforts to stay motivated, keep in touch and share their experiences. Our Flixton Family is very important to us and staying safe whilst also checking in with friends, family and colleagues is crucial at this time.
It has been lovely to hear what our staff, students and parents have been achieving over the last few weeks. We have heard about some remarkable student charity work including Olivia Turner 8EC, who is raising money for Bone Cancer UK. She has already raised £800 so far by cycling virtually around the UK, on her exercise bike. Olivia used her wellbeing day, non-screen day to complete a 40K ride. What a fabulous achievement Olivia!
Additionally Maddison Cottrill 11UR came to the aid of 9 vulnerable horses in the recent flooding. Creating dry stabling, along with friends and family members, they ensured horses who were flooded out of their homes or stranded due to flooded fields, had somewhere safe and warm to stay. A community raffle then raised over £1100, which provided much needed funds for the flooded stables and those who helped the stricken horses. Enabling essential repairs and stabling costs to be recuperated. Brilliant community spirit!
Additionally our Friends of Flixton fundraiser is also bringing our school community together with its current event. As mentioned in Mrs Trussell’s headteacher video updates and advertised through our social media accounts: ParentPay options for “I’m a Headteacher, Get me out of here!” Friends of Flixton fundraiser, are now OPEN!!! £1 donation = 1 vote - whichever raises the most by the end of play Mon 22nd Feb, Mrs Trussell will complete on Wed 24th Feb. Don’t delay, vote TODAY! #challenge.
Options include, 8.2 mile walk to work, cleaning and cooking all day at FGS or fast food challenge. Check out your daughters ParentPay account for the voting choices. Cast your vote by donating a £1 minimum per each vote.
All funds raised go into the Friends of Flixton fundraising pot, for school activities and stock for student use. We look forward to seeing the results towards the end of February!
