Trafford Water-Sports Challenge!
Posted at 1:13 pm on 12th May, 2022
At Flixton Girls School we inspire students to discover their talents and fulfil their potential through our founding principles of aspiration, empowerment and excellence. These principles are at the heart of life at FGS, ensuring that each individual is able to achieve their personal best.
In response to some of our current year 8 cohort not being able to participate in the recent Outward Bound course we were able to offer fifteen places for a day of team building and water-sports challenges. Escorted by Assistant Headteacher Mrs Hannah Smith our intrepid year 8’s challenged their capabilities, a little closer to home at Trafford Water-Sports Centre, in Sale, run by Peak Activity Services Ltd. Students took part in both land and water based experiences including paddle boarding, canoeing and archery.
The weather couldn’t have been better as the group donned their safety equipment and got stuck into their challenges. The water-sports centre provided a peaceful backdrop and the students thoroughly enjoyed their day learning outside of the classroom.
Mrs Smith commented; ‘What an amazing day, thank you to the staff for the fantastic experiences. Everyone got stuck in with all the activities and proved how resilient FGS students really are.’
Three year 8 students Myah-Willow, Scarlet and Amara-Kathleen said,
‘Great day, we had a condensed version of what our peers experienced at Outward Bound.’
‘The instructors made us feel welcomed and safe at all times.’
‘We really enjoyed all the activities, but especially the paddle boarding, even though we fell off while trying to stand-up.’
‘The challenges allowed us to work as a team and brought us closer as a group.’
‘I would love to do more of this type of activity day, both as a school and with my family; I have already discussed with my Dad and Uncle.’
