Welcome New Year Seven Students

It was a very warm welcome to Flixton Girls School (FGS) to all our primary school students from year 6, who have gained a place with us from September 2016. All the girls attended our two day transition to allow them to meet, spend time and interact with their fellow form members, form tutors and teaching staff.

The two day transition schedule consisted of an assembly, form time, Moving Up activities, Maths, English and Science lessons; as well as Cognitive Ability Testing which provides very useful information about all the girls, including their abilities in literacy, numeracy, non-verbal communication and spatial ability. It also tells us what type of learner they are most likely to be.

Each form group was met and supported by our existing student Transition Ambassadors who escorted and assisted the new students throughout the two day program. They also had the chance to learn about the library and the Book Buzz (http://www.bookbuzz.org.uk/about-us/). Each student will be given a reading book from Bookbuzz in September.

At FGS we pride ourselves on ensuring all our students have a smooth transition from primary to secondary school. This two day transition is the culmination of our Primary Liaison Teams efforts to guide our new student cohort through the transition process.

We have again experienced another bumper student in-take for September 2016 and we are again over-subscribed.

Many new students expressed excitement about commencing their secondary school journey with us in September. They told our staff that since attending our interactive Open Evening they couldn’t wait to be offered a place at FGS.

Following the first transition day parents were invited to attend our parental induction evening to find out more information about the school and discover what their daughter had been learning.  They also had an opportunity to meet and talk with key members of staff, including their daughter’s form tutor.

For potential future students and their parents and family members our next Open Evening will be held on Thursday 22^nd September 5.00 to 8.30pm. We look forward to seeing you all there!
