Young Musician of the Year
Posted at 12:48 pm on 17th May, 2017
The Music department recently ran a competition that focused on instrumental musical talents. All levels of performers were represented in three categories; elementary (pre-grade 1) intermediate (grade 1-3) and advanced (grade 4 onwards).
Semi-finals took place in April and despite many strong performances from all year groups, only nine finalists made the grade. All the girls who have reached the final have extra instrument lessons in school, with a number of them also furthering their commitment outside school.
Finalist were: Tilly Comiskey year 7 – piano, Isabelle Rose year 7 – vocal, Freya Deary-Stanford year 7 – piano, Zoe Gilpin year 8 – clarinet, Ella Fagan year 9 – drums, Mia Robertson year 9 – voice, Sinead Brooker year 9 – violin, Eleanor Wood year 10 – clarinet and Evie Headford year 11 – voice.
The final was attended by family and friends of the finalists plus year 7 students. This gave year 7 students the chance to see what is achievable with drive and determination, providing inspiration for them to begin learning and give them the ambition to enter the competition next year.
The winners were:
Advanced winner Evie Headford year 11 and runner up Sinead Brooker year 9,
Intermediate winner Mia Robertson year 9, who wrote and sang her own piece and runner up Ella Fagan year 9,
Elementary winner Isabelle Rose year 7 and runner up Tilly Comiskey year 7
Due to the overwhelming number of students who have shown an interest in this competition we hope to continue the event annually and grow participation year on year. We look forward to hearing all the girls many talents at the forth coming Summer Concert and Art Exhibition on 5th July.
