As the Football World Cup entered the knockout rounds our female sporting stars embraced the football fever in celebration of their own sporting achievements at Flixton Girls School.

Craig Heap, Gymnastic Olympic Double and Commonwealth Gold Medallist was our guest speaker. On  this, his second visit to FGS, he provided insight into his sporting successes and dedication to his chosen sport; sharing hilarious stories and anecdotes of his journey to become the best he can be. His message was ‘Achieving your personal best isn’t all about winning but having the determination to keep going and be the best you can be.’ He also provided the commentary for the ‘Personal Best Challenges’ performed by both staff, Heads of House and students.  Burpees, bench taps and tennis ball bounces were the challenges of the night and everyone performed to their own personal best, with Rosa Parks House being crowned the overall challenge winners.

A range of student performances included the school choir, who opened the event, dance and gymnastics. Primary school students from Abbotsford Preparatory School delighted the audience with their Bollywood performance.

Students across all year groups received awards for their successes and teamwork and helped entertain and host the event. Among the awards were Team of the Year, which went to the Under 16’s Football Team after reaching the quarter finals of the English schools cup; the position the school has ever achieved. The Excellence Awards for KS3, went to Jasmine Richardson and the KS4 award, went to Tyana Reid.
