Dear Parents and Carers,
Week five has flown by, and with two weeks to go until the half term break, I would be lying to you if I said we were not all a little bit tired – we are only human! Yet we still have lots to share with you about what has been going on.
ย ๐จ Artistic Brilliance: During the Summer term our Year 7 students were tasked with creating some artwork linked to the themes of homelessness. Our talented students have been hard at work creating marvelous artwork. As a result, thirteen students have had their work selected to be displayed in a Manchester Art Gallery. We look forward to sharing their work on our social media platforms.
ย We have also seen Mrs Heeney and Mrs Bates artistic qualities shine through this week โ They have created a wonderful book clock in the library to celebrate โBlack History Monthโ.
ย ย โฝ Victory on the Field: Cheers to our Year 10/11 football team for their spectacular victory against Stretford Grammar, with a remarkable score of 7-2! As always, the team gave it their all and showed real togetherness on the pitch.
Duke of Edinburgh Excitement: This week we hosted a special D of E drop-in session for Year 9 students wanting to join the program. We really look forward to welcoming as many students as possible to the bronze award this year. As they embark on this adventure, they are not only signing up for a journey filled with fun and friendships but also an opportunity to boost their self-esteem and confidence. DofE equips them with essential life skills like resilience, problem-solving, teamwork, communication, and drive โ qualities that will not only enhance their CVs but also pave the way for success in university and future job applications.

๐ Higher Education Insights: You may already be aware that we offer our students the opportunity to continue their A-level studies right here at Flixton. This week, we had the pleasure of hosting Trafford College for a thorough quality assurance assessment. They diligently observed lessons, assessed student work, and collected invaluable feedback from our pupils. We are thrilled to report that the feedback was overwhelmingly positive, a testament to the strength of our educational community and the excellent 6th form provision we offer. Curious to see it for yourself? Mark your calendars for our 6th Form Open Evening on November 9th, 2023. We cannot wait to welcome as many of you through our doors to explore the exciting possibilities awaiting our students! ๐โ๏ธ
ย ๐ฉ๐ช German Excellence: Kudos to our Year 11 students who displayed great resilience and determination during their German mock speaking practice this week. We are proud of your dedication to learning and for taking yourself out of your comfort zone! “Gut gemacht!”
๐ผ๏ธ Whitworth Art Gallery Delight: Our Year 11 students embarked on an artful adventure to the Whitworth Art Gallery. The staff at the gallery were hugely impressed by their behavior, engagement, and artistic skills. A huge shoutout to our incredible art department for nurturing our students’ talents!
๐ Inspiring Aspirations: Our Year 10 students went on a thrilling journey to the University of Manchester, courtesy of the esteemed Manchester Gateway program. This incredible experience has been part of our students’ educational path for several years, and it continues to serve as a beacon of opportunity. It is a chance to ignite their dreams and encourage them to reach for the stars. We firmly believe that every student with the aspiration to attend university should have that chance. The Manchester Gateway program opens doors to future educational achievements, and we take immense pride in offering it as an integral part of our careers program.
๐ญ House Arts Anticipation: Auditions for House Arts have been nothing short of amazing this week! We can’t wait for the finalists to perform on the 19th of October. Picture it: a hall filled with students dressed in pajamas (yes, it’s pajama day!), cheering on their friends, forms, and houses. It’s going to be epic!

ย Year 7 Tudor Trail Trip: Dear Year 7 parents/carers,
We are thrilled by the overwhelming interest in our upcoming Tudor Trail Trip for Year 7 students. It is fantastic to see so many eager participants! However, as it is a residential trip, we do have limited spots available. To be fair, we will be selecting students randomly from those who have expressed interest. We will inform you of the outcome next week. While we understand that not everyone will get to join this time, fret not! There will be plenty of other exciting residential opportunities throughout their journey at Flixton.ย
ย Year 10 GCSE Pod: Empowering Your Child
Parents of Year 10 students, keep an eye out for a letter coming home with your child, all about GCSE Pod. This letter will outline the numerous benefits and provide valuable information on how you can support your child in making the most of this resource.ย
ย ๐General uniform reminder:
On the whole students are looking smart and wearing the uniform appropriately. Can I ask for a collective effort to ensure that students do continue to wear the uniform with pride and maintain these standards as we get to the end of the first half term.
ย ย ๐ Upcoming Events Reminder:
โ Year 13 parents and carers – Tuesday 10 October @5pm – virtual UCAS information drop in with Miss McKenna.
โ Year 7 parents and carers – Thursday 12 October – Do not forget about the Year 7 Settling Evening next week. It’s a chance for parents and carers to connect and ensure a smooth transition for our Year 7 students.
โ All years – Thursday 19 October – come to school in Pyjamas as it is โPyjama Day.โ
โ Year 11 Progress Evening – Thursday 02 November – a change to the originally advertised date! Parents/carers and staff had asked that we avoid 31 October in case anyone celebrates this spooky night. We have opted to move it to the Thursday of the same week and want as many of you to attend as possible to discuss this critical year of education.
ย We hope you have a great weekend full of excitement just like our house Mexican waves.
Take Care
Miss Danielle Tedford: Acting Principal
